random preggie rant

Thing to never say to a preggie/couple – major No-No!

DO NOT ask me (us) if we’re happy when we reveal the gender!
because if not, then what – oops, sorry! could we get a refund or exchange on that please?

Gender reveal

Why are some people So Caught Up with the gender of the baby? That is something I will never understand. Boy or girl, it doesn’t matter. We love our baby all the same.

I cannot get enough questions about which gender I (we) prefer.

It is not a choice.

You can’t just order one to be picked up from a store.

I’m polite about it (the same way you really should be instead of asking such a question), but here’s what I would really like to say: it’s a really dumb question.

The same way people ask if I will change my nationality after getting married. I mean like, what – Excuse me? Do I change my whole identity as a person just because I got married? Or maybe I have stopped existing as the person I was for the last few decades because of a wedding? Or is it something that is on me just because I am the female of the couple? I don’t see the boy getting that question – it’s beyond ridiculous. But anyway that’s for another time.

So PLEASE, CONTINUE to ask us about gender preference because it thrills us so.

I have been keen on only finding out at the birth but for practical reasons like naming and nationality papers, decided otherwise. No big announcements planned though, just a birth announcement with a cute picture to look forward to, which is more than enough for me to think about at this point.

“so how did you know/find out?”

Since announcing our pregnancy to the family, I’ve gotten questions on “How did you know/find out?”

Some women tell you that they ‘just knew’, and somehow I had a nagging thought at the back of my mind since week 3. I just kept thinking, ‘what if I’m pregnant?’.

And so I started avoiding alcohol and coffee altogether, being careful with not eating cold cuts or bloody red meat, and things started getting really suspicious when I started to abhor the smell of coffee –  I just couldn’t stomach it! Now, I’ve always been in love with my Nespressos – I can never refuse a good brew while the husband can’t stand even a whiff of it. Continue reading

4 months 1 day

Hurrah!! We’ve moved on to a new month!

and so the baby name list scrolling begins. It will be a long process as of course in addition to marriage, this is one other thing that was never a part of my ‘little girl fairy dreams’.

I’ve decided to enlist the help of baby when the kicks get more prominent. I’ll read out the shortlisted ones and see which he responds to. It might not be that easy I reckon!

I’ve started feeling turns and flips since about 12 and a half weeks, thumps, what feels like baby stretching out, with a definite kick early Sunday morning and I was like – OY! Unmistakable.

bathroom trips are really frequent now and I-just-can’t-hold-it-in bad, so I’m not sure what to expect as the weeks go by – every 15 mins?!

I’m also keeping very well hydrated, so I guess that helps.

I feel great and well, energy’s back.

15 weeks 2 days

OB/GYN today but baby was moving too much to get an updated picture or CRL measurement!

Both parents were not too pleased but what can you do. If he’s sleeping he’s hiding himself in the back, if he’s awake he’s rolling around every millisecond. (!!) He definitely looked significantly bigger on the screen now than 3 weeks ago. All results normal and all thumbs up from the professional as he kept telling us “Well done guys,” ??!

Also got the ok for exercise so am going to restart yoga practice. Yippee!! It keeps me sane.

Still quite fatigued, but I suspect that has to do more with the intense holiday season than anything else. My energy levels are definitely still not what they used to be.

If I thought I couldn’t see a significant change at Christmas, I now have a hint of a bump. I looked the other day and the bump has suddenly and definitely grown quite a bit in the last 2 weeks – c’est étonnant!

I think it also depends on the position baby’s taking. If he’s pushed out or snuggled in. At times there is quite a noticeable bump but it seems to flatten back out at other times of the day.
